Fashion designer Anita Dongre, who showcases her collection today at the fashion week, tells us why she chose Jaipur again as her theme.

Designer par excellence Anita Dongre has been at the forefront of the Indian fashion scene for a number of years. Anita who has slowly but surely carved her own niche and created an empire that is any designer’s dream to accomplish.

Her name has become synonymous with a certain caliber of unmatched quality, taste, class and distinction. We asked her about her summer collection that she showcases at Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) today, “My collection is called ‘Jaipur’ again.

Predominantly, my collection is ruled by whites as nothing can beat whites in summers or any day event. Whites never go out of fashion. It’s the apt time to showcase them. So all my motifs are based on the architecture of the walls in a Jaipur palace. It is very elegant and classy and versatile too. I always while designing take into consideration the people who usually buy my collection from Bollywood celebs to chase a single garment. One of the highlights of my collection is that it can be worn in several ways.”

Interestingly, like last season she does not have a celebrity show-stopper, “My clothes are my stars. I put my heart and soul in each and every collection. So I do not want to take away the attention that they will get by adding a celebrity show-stopper. Not that I’m against it, but not this time for sure.”

From pret to couture, traditional to contemporary, classic to avant-garde and desi to global, her creations bear a mark that is unique. Last season she presented her Anita Dongre Timeless, collection but this time there is a twist and that is mixing her  Iinterpret line with Timeless as a fusion collection. So where on one hand Iinterpret collection ranges to Rs 10,000, the Timeless collection starts from Rs15,000. She says “I want to give my buyers the best. Therefore I am doing this where I can show them how my both lines can be blended in a look to make it look stylish and chic. Besides, I want to give my buyers value for money.”

The collection uses fabrics like silk organza, linen, modal jersey, net, and pure georgette.  She says, “My collection is elaborate in terms like it goes from day wear to evening wear, something for every occasion. There are lots of body suits, skirts, ghagras and much more. i can’t divulge further all I will say is just be there at show to find out more,” she ends candidly.
