Overlooking the serene environs of the heritage St Peter’s Church is Fahad Samar and Simone Singh’s 2,500 sq ft terrace apartment in Bandra. As actor Simone and film-maker Fahad often have to travel to film studios at Goregaon, they both felt Bandra embodies their style of living and sense of aesthetics, after South Mumbai. “It has an energy and a feeling of community that we both adore,” says Fahad.
One burgundy-painted wall in the drawing room shows off a striking painting — Da Vinci Parlour — featuring three women blow-drying Mona Lisa’s hair! If that’s not eye-catching enough, on one of their white walls in the drawing room is a mirror installation objet d’art created by French sculptor Yahel Crinian. Italian black leather sofas match perfectly with two black lamps — one from renowned French product designer Philippe Starck and the other from New York. An antique cast-iron candelabra adds an touch of elegance to the space. An antique teak wood writing desk has been converted into the bar, making the space truly eclectic.
Large French windows open out the drawing room onto the terrace making the entire area seem seamless. A gorgeous ceramic table from Florence, surrounded by chairs sitting pretty under a gazebo amidst lush foliage, completes the laid-back look on the terrace. At one corner is the bar sporting Spanish tiles on its table top picked up by the duo on one of their trips to Spain.
There’s also a barbeque pit at the other end. Many lamps lit up with tea lights, sourced from Chor Bazaar and other little nooks around town, cast a warm glow and lend a cozy feel to this outdoor seating area, making it a perfect setting for entertaining an intimate gathering of a few close friends.
So what do they like doing on a Sunday? “We have a ‘lazy’ brunch dished up by Simone, who is a great cook,” says Fahad rolling up his eyes, adding, “and watch films and chill out. We hardly ever like to go out on Sundays,” he adds.
