The gentle aroma of lemon grass fragrance wafting through Bollywood music director Raju Singh’s bungalow makes you feel as if you’ve stepped into a spa. “My wife Sherley loves to infuse our home with fragrances,” says the 40-year-old. Inhabiting the 3,000 sq ft, second floor is Raju, Sherley and their two teenaged children — son Joshua and daughter Rachel.A tree with beautiful pink flowers in full bloom adds a splash of colour to the cool cream walls and stark white upholstered sofas in their living room. There is a personal touch added by Sherley in the house. A burnt orange and gold wall was personally worked on and an old piano has been placed beside it. On the opposite side of the room is the dining table and above an aesthetic painting of two Rajasthani women. The tall ceilings are put to good use in the master bedroom where a partition reminds you of a musical note in motion which separates a part of the room into two halves. The upper level has been turned into an informal TV room where the family bonds together and the lower section is Sherley's walk-in wardrobe. The balcony is done up with green potted plants which line the entire length of the balcony. Chairs upholstered in cherry red and florescent green cushions add vibrancy to the space. Meena Kumari cushions adds a charming touch. Raju is fond of entertaining his close friends here as the place has a mini-fridge and a well-stocked bar.Raju’s main instrument happens to be the acoustic guitar. “My dad was a musician himself; what I learnt from him is to take an instrument to the top and leave it there and get onto the next instrument,” says Raju on his style of playing. Raju is known for his riveting background scores. Prominent among them is the scores he’s given for national award-winning films like Chandini Bar and Page 3. Having been born into a family that manufactures Indian musical instruments has perhaps also drawn him towards the craft. The home also holds many high-tech appliances like his daughter’s iMac, his son’s digital music set and his movie projector and home theatre. So where does he go when he wants to get inspired? His gorgeous terrace has many potted plants, a Buddha statue and an eagle eye view of the cool surroundings. Now that’s music to the ears!
