How about a pre-birthday bash?

And here’s what something that seems to be the latest fad — pre-birthday bashes.

Party lovers never run out of reasons to celebrate. And here’s what something that seems to be the latest fad — pre-birthday bashes. Popstar Rihanna had a pre-birthday celebration in Feb, some weeks before her actual birthday, with close friends Katy Perry and Bruno Mars, and, surprisingly, also Chris Brown. So did American TV actor Kate Gosselin.

Pre-birthday bashes come as a good (read justified) excuse to party whenever and wherever. However, most opt for one about a month or just a few weeks in advance. “Isn’t it great for those who believe that 24 hours can’t possibly be enough to celebrate something you’ve waited for all year… it could mean some non-stop partying or just a quiet getaway with your close coterie,” says Marzy Parakh, owner of Volare Resto Lounge, who jaunted off to London to celebrate his birthday in advance. “I had my pre-b’day bash in London last year, which was two weeks before my birthday, which was on June 7 and it involved a series of activities ranging from a quaint trip to the beautiful countryside with some close friends, to a few days of club hopping,” he adds.

While most prefer to hold the advance bash in a quaint, far-off place, some like it to be as loud as possible. Sheen Lalwani, owner of city club Hawaiian shack, describes the fast-paced life as the reason for this new trend amongst the youth. “I feel what has sparked it off is the work culture,” says Sheen. “As everyone’s working on weekdays, people prefer to have a pre-birthday party over the weekend instead. In fact close by places like Lonavala and Khandala are becoming the hotspots for Mumbaikars to party and celebrate,” she adds.

Besides, you could even surprise your friend by hosting a pre-birthday bash for him/her. “It makes for a good occasion to celebrate and reminisce the good old days with your close set of friends, and also to plan something special for the actual birthday ahead,” says Mankaran Johar, brand manager of Aurus (Juhu).

“We have provision for a special custom-made menu and also the choice of music,” he adds.   So don’t just keep the indulgences on hold for that once-in-a-year day, after all, partying is always thrilling. Not to forget that it’s also a brilliant chance to pamper yourself and grab gifts from your friends. So make the most of it.
