The StyleSpeak Nailathon on 8th January, partnered with brands such as Lure Nails and OPI,was the first of it's kind in India. Brands, nail art enthusiasts and nail experts were all gathered under one roof.
The Nailathon featured five competitions—
French Jazz: Recreate the traditional French manicure with only two colours, but with an interesting concept to it.
The Salon Fast and Perfect: Contestants had to race to apply gel or acrylic nail extensions and a French manicure on their models
Bridal Chic: Contestant had to conceptualise a nail design for Indian brides.
Fantasy en Vogue: Contestants used nail extensions and sculpting to produce art from specified themes.
The Salon Team Challenge: The only team competition with a group of three where they took turns to give their model a French manicure in complete silence
With the artists and models registered the day before, the competition was intense. “Bridal Chic was imaginative and French Jazz was very challenging. The Fantasy En Vogue was the most creative and drew a large crowd,” said Nayana Karunaratne, one of the judges.
The event also saw international nail professionals create art on the Live Trends Stage, which was a huge success.
“It's a really exciting day here. We've got hundreds of people. The competition is huge. This really is history in the making and it is great to be a part of it,” said Robert Nguyen, a judge and a professional nail artist.
Talking about the event, Nayana said “I am overwhelmed with the turnout and surprised with the interest shown. As this is the first nail art championship, the response is very good and we aim to build a platform and help in the growth of the nail art industry. We see a lot of scope and this is a great way to start.”
