International Tea Day is observed on May 21 in an effort to create awareness about the safe working conditions of the tea workers, fair trade, and a sustainable environment in which the tea is being produced. The Tea Board of India created this day in hopes that it will become an official holiday to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. The United Nations General Assembly declared May 21 as the International Tea Day. As consumers, we have the power of demanding answers about the tea we consume; we can make sensible choices by ditching the CTC (cut, tear, curl) tea and adopting the whole-leaf or orthodox tea, to ensure fair prices for the tea workers which will not just be ethical but the process of manufacturing would be transparent too.
