Is your home equipped with kid-friendly rooms?

Children need an ambience that will encourage them to study, which is why when it comes to doing up a kid’s study most people seem to enjoy the experience.

A lot of colour, posters and informative pieces on the wall would describe the perfect study area for kids — after all, who would want to study in a boring setting!

Studies for kids are usually part of their bedroom  itself but it’s also important to demarcate the zones well, agree most experts. With different themes, carefully divided, running through the room, a child will actually want to step over to his or her desk to start with their daily studies.

So, how can one make the room more interesting? The space has to have proper balance of fun and educational material. Designer and rallyist Anita Kholay says, “Setting up a kid’s study can be easy and complicated at the same time. While you need to add some fun elements, you also need to make sure there are essential items as well — so an appropriate table, chair and bookshelves within reach and games for them to play with.

And yes, not to forget stationery either!” adding, “Even the simplest of things, like a pen stand, books, and similar items, need to be kept in an appealing way for them to enjoy the process of studying. With bright wallpapers, one can make the room look even livelier.”
Even proper lighting plays an important role, points out fashion designer Ritu Pande.

“One definitely requires brighter rooms with colourful wall posters. But accurate lights for the room are imperative. You can also have fun lights, to make it attractive and comfortable,” she suggests, adding, “Since people rarely have a separate study and bedroom for kids, try and divide the two areas in the same room using colour and dividers. A good computer that is easy to access for kids is also a must.”

Giving inputs on how to make study rooms more interesting, interior designer Sandeep Bangera says, “Instead of adding more colour on the walls, think differently — use posters, different coloured lights etc. Try and separate the spaces for books, files, stationery items and games so that it’s neat and organised. Creating a nice table setting with a good lamp will add more fun to the room.”
