It’s a celebration of flavours at Autumn Bar & Bistro

We glance at the menu and realise that we’re going to be spoilt for choice. Should we go for a wafer-thin pizza or a Burmese Khow Suey or a Laal Maas? After much deliberation, we order all three! After all, we’re at the newly-opened Autumn Bar & Bistro, and it would be a shame if we didn’t give it our full attention.  

But before we take off on a culinary journey that extends from Europe to the Far East, we take a look around to appreciate the bold green walls, the warm lights and when the food arrives, the pretty green cutlery in which it is served.

Owner Sunny Singh comes by, to tell us that his first venture outside of Jaipur — where he has five restaurants — celebrates food from all over. “We also use in-house sauces and make our own crust for the pizzas. The idea is to not use preservatives wherever possible and combine flavours that work well together,” head chef Ahesan Mohammad tells us. We can’t wait to start. 

First up are the Thai Style Chicken Dumplings on Sugarcane (Rs 425). Served with a chilli dip, the lemongrass infused chicken meatballs are full of flavour and are over in no time. We would happily go for seconds but there is more coming up. The Quinoa and Kale Salad (Rs 355) would be bland but is saved with the inclusion of orange segments and pomegranates, but we’re not a fan. To wash it all down, we order an Eggy Margarita (Rs 495), that thankfully isn’t as eggy as it sounds. In fact, the tequila cocktail with egg white is quite refreshing. 

The pizzas — Veggie Blast (Rs 525) and Pili Pili Chicken (Rs 595) — arrive on wafer-thin crusts, and get a big thumbs up from us for their beautiful toppings — especially the caramelised onions on the latter. It’s the Burmese Khow Suey (Rs 340) that lets us down. It does not have the right flavour of coconutty comfort that we like in our Khow Sueys. But the more said, the better in the case of the Lal Maas with Laccha Paratha (Rs 615). The mutton is tender and the spicy Rajasthani curry goes perfectly well with the soft parathas. We would go back just for this.
