New York is wonderful as usual....but this time I’m seeing New York in a totally different way. I see why it is, in many ways, one of the world’s premiere culture capitals. The New York International Fringe Festival is just one of the hundreds of artistic events that is being held in this vibrant city simultaneously! This is so unlike Edinburgh where we performed last year, where the Fringe was the only artistic event in the city for the entire month.

This makes performing in New York a challenge though! Ours was the first show to sell out at the Festival and Opening Night was amazing. We had to turn away more than 50 people at the gate, got a standing ovation and from nytheatre.com — one of the foremost authorities on theatre in New York, I received the best review I have ever had for A Personal War — Stories of the Mumbai Terror Attacks. There are several shows performing at the Fringe — 197 to be exact. The other shows at the festival are fun and crazy. We have musicals, the American comedies and American political satires. Each show seems to have been hand picked carefully as many of these shows go on to full Broadway runs and huge deals for the directors, producers and actors. Each theatre that these shows are being performed in is wonderful.

Ours is like a mini experimental theatre with tons more lights and our venue has 18 different shows including a juggling act. The Fringe opened in Soho with street performers and outrageous costumes and had all the energy of the Edinburgh Fringe even though it’s smaller in size.

We are so grateful to be in one of the Theatre Capitals of the world and ruling it with our small play from Mumbai. It was fun being a theatre star...I could get used to this!
