Who says today’s youth think western wear when they talk fashion? Take one look at Elixir Nahar, a budding model, and you’ll know that ethnic Indian wear has enough and more takers as far as youngsters are concerned. When we found out that the young lass’s wardrobe has a fair share of Indian wear, we roped her in to pose for After Hrs’ Look Of The Week section, for this time the LOTW team was gunning for a stylish and youthful Indian look, with hints of the contemporary...
From fabric, style to the colours, we wanted to something that would suit all seasons. Elixir decided to sport a bolero over her well-fitted kurta and patiala. In fact the bolero is what made this otherwise casual clothing rather different. While its simplicity is something that will allow you to carry it with ease at work or even college, its elegance and desi touch will help you look suitably dressed for any special occasion. A longer waistcoat thrown casually over a short top and a patiala salwar could also make a world of difference...
Tresspass
Elixir prefers to leave her long, beautiful and well-maintained hair open. But since the attire was simple, stylist Romi thought it would be appropriate to go a little dramatic with the tresses and make up. After much contemplation, both the model and stylist agreed upon a fishtail braid. This look is quite trendy at the moment and actor Deepika Padukone was seen sporting a similar style in her recent film Cocktail. Since our model normally refrains from using hair products, Romi stayed away from using any. While Romi has used only a rubber band to hold Elixir’s hair in place, you could dress it up with a cute bow or a fashionable hair clip too.
Colour me pretty
Elixir’s flawless skin only made Romi’s job of colour coding the look easier. We decided to highlight our model’s expressive eyes by using a mix of Turkish blue and black eyeshadow. Liquid eye liner has been used to highlight her long lashes and Mac bronzer has been used to enhance her skin tone. For the lips, Romi has again mix and matched shades. She has used light pink and chocolate colours to ensure a subtle feel.”These colours will look good in winter,” Romi adds. Elixir decides to paint her nails pink, which contrasts the blue and beige in her attire well.
Dress me up
Elixir’s sense of dressing is a reflection of her youthfulness and she’s always ready to experiment. This time, she does away with bright colours she usually prefers and instead, decides to go with a pleasant colour like blue. While her fitted sleeveless kurta is beige, her floral printed patiala pants and the short and smart bolero are blue in colour. The bolero that comes with applique work on it adds a dash of modernity to the otherwise traditional outfit. One can supplement the kurta with a spaghetti top too. Our fashion conscious model also shows us how to carry off a long waistcoat. She also tries on a short top and patiala, both in beige, and brightens up the outfit with a reversible waistcoat that is bright yellow from the inside and deep purple from the outside. “I think with the festive season coming up, young girls can easily consider these looks, given that they are traditional yet very today and youthful,” feels Elixir. This is something that she would be comfortable wearing to college too, she adds. She picked these affordable organic cotton garments made by Paruti and is available at the Under The Tree boutique.
Li’l Add-Ons
Like in the case of her outfit, Elixir keeps her accessories also to the bare minimum. An antique finger ring with a pink stone is what she peps up her blue outfit with. She also adds a gold colour watch to add spark to the nude tone of the kurti. For the ears, she felt a pair of simple and small studs would do. There could not have been a better choice of footwear than her multi-coloured and beaded sandals to complete the ensemble.
