“In death, everybody is not equal. Whenever somebody dies in frustration with their desires unfulfilled, their souls end up being lost,” says S Ganesan, author of the book Ghosts, Occults & Exorcists.

In one of the flats at a posh building in Kemps Corner, all three generations of the family committed suicide. The flat is apparently unsold because people believe it is possessed by spirits. Another spooky place is said to be a popular colony near Goregaon, where many actors are sceptical about shooting after 6 pm due to the rumour that there is a ghost in this area.

There is a spot, said to be near Charni road, where a ghostly lady pleads with travellers. At the National Park, rumour has it that a ghost often throws stones at night into the homes of staffers.

A popular mill area, also used for film shoots, is the fifth spot where ghosts are believed to harass people. It is one of photographer Dabboo Ratnani’s favourite shooting locations. “I have heard that a girl became possessed during the shoot of a film at night here. She was screaming in a man’s voice and later lost control of herself and was admitted to a hospital,” he says.

Actor Rohit Roy too experienced something here while he was shooting. “Two lightmen heard a woman’s voice in the dark and along with some noises in the shrubs. When they checked there was nobody around. They were totally shaken,” he says.

“I believe in spiritual and out-of-body experiences. There is a fabulous world out there and we have not even scratched the surface. Supernatural forms of energy do exist. I am and all of us are here for a reason. We must fulfill that.”
