Music was introduced to them as an instrument to free themselves from the prevalent violence and oppression in the city of Darjeeling. Hence, they took it up. And today these kids from the Gandhi Ashram School Orchestra have gone on to become international level performers.

The String Concert is organised by the Xavier College Chorus and is a part of the 10 days Mumbai tour for the Gandhi Ashram School Orchestra during which they will be giving performances at different locations in the city.

And joining them will be music maestros Luis Szaran and Gustavo Barrientos from Paraguay, Valerie Tobergte from Germany; and  also Mumbai based artists like Shirish Malhotra, Natasha Collaco, Zarin Ghadialy, Kersi Gazdar and Paul Paul.

These kids have been trained by musician volunteers from all across the world. director of Xavier Institute of Communication, Lawrie Ferrao, says, “The objective of this collaboration is to showcase the talent of these poor kids by providing them a global platform.”
