Veena Jain, owner of One stop Milano, brings her love for Italian street fashion into the party scene in Bangalore...
Why Italian fashion?
I love Italy and Milan is the primary centre for runway fashion. When I went to that country, I fell in love with their sense of fashion and aesthetics and then it struck me, why not bring the same essence to India.
What motivated you to venture into the fashion business to begin with?
Fashion is almost a national passion, and shopping has always been in my blood. I think it’s quite common for most women. It was only after I saw the fashion stores in Italy that I decided to do something exciting. So you could say that my store is a marriage between passion and desire.
What are the trends this season?
As it is summer in Italy, you see people wearing only tunics with gorgeous boots, which is what I have also introduced in my store. We’ve got a special range in leaf green, which finds its inspiration from Italian windows.
What kind of accessories would you recommend for the same ensemble?
Long funky chains, big bags and scarves! Wear a extravagant chain to look like a rockstar and scarves make you elegant. It’s quite easy to customise a tunic to suit the kind of look you want.
What are the five basic things every woman should possess?
Credit cards for emergency shopping, sun glasses to protect your eyes from dust and pollution and to look good, a good mobile phone, lipstick for the perfect pout and a sunscreen with moisturiser to protect your skin — these are the five essentials a woman must always have in her bag.
What do you think about Lady Gaga’s sense of fashion?
Lady Gaga dresses in a very outlandish manner, which in my opinion is a little too much for India. These designs will not be accepted here as the Indian market is yet not open for such extreme sense of fashion. On the other hand, in the West she is considered to be a style icon.
