Like most of us, Bollywood actor Reema Sen too has grown up with typical Hindi commercial movies. “Since my childhood, I loved watching masala movies. I have no qualms accepting the fact that
I like movies which has actors running around trees,” she says.
However, being an ardent admirer of movies, her attention also got diverted to movies coming from foreign shores. “I have watched a lot of foreign films, be it European, South American or Hollywood. I love their kind of movies because most of the films which I have come across have such amazing stories in it. I also enjoyed a lot of festival circuit movies since they have very off-the-mark treatment to them,” she adds.
When it comes to choosing her favourite film, she picks up Brazilian crime drama City of God. “The film was a revelation. It’s so stylish and the narrative is mind-boggling. It’s a film that truly blew my mind.”
Unlike a typical mush-loving girl, Reema prefers gritty movies. “I know most of the girls can’t stand a gory film but to be honest I really enjoy those. For example, I loved Amores Perros by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. The film has a lot of gore in it but at the end of it, you can’t deny that it’s a courageous modern masterpiece,” she says.
Reema doesn’t like mindless Hollywood action blockbusters. “Hollywood action films are just not my cup of tea. I would prefer movies like Casino or Scarface which are not mechanical.”
The actor recently cried while watching Cinema Paradiso. “I recently saw this Italian film which is essentially about films. The end montage of the film about famous screen kisses was just out of the world. It’s a film that pays homage to films. At the end of it, I had tears in my eyes,” she ends.
