The Bangalore connection worked for Rubi Chakravarti, who bagged herself a pivotal role in Bejoy Nambiar’s next, David. And what makes it even better is that she will be playing actor Vikram’s mother in the film.
“Years back, I had worked with Bejoy on a stage production — that’s how we first got acquainted. When he got in touch with me some time back with the offer, the first thing he told me was that he had written the character with me in mind,” she recollects, adding, “There was no way I could have refused such an offer.”
Rubi is excited to start shooting this month end. “There’s no greater high for an artist than to work with like-minded people. Moreover, to be able to work with Bejoy will be more than just a pleasure. I have seen his first film, Shaitan, and must say he’s given film-making a very international definition and look.”
Quiz her on sharing the same frame with the likes of Vikram and Tabu and Rubi is her usual animated self. “I wouldn’t be able to disclose much about my role, but it will be great to be able to work with actors who have been watched and admired for the variety of work they have done,” she says.
While the finer details of the shoot are still being worked out, Rubi, a natural, doesn’t have anything much to prepare. “Spontaneity has always been my good friend — I’d like it to be that,” she signs off.
