Presence of eminent artists like Uday Mondal, Anand Gandapa and Roopali Amin at an art show encouraged a curator's attempts to start an awareness drive with the medium of art. Questions - a live public painting show on Thursday evening drew huge crowds and enjoyed the live sketches made these well-known painters. The highlight of the show was the surprise presence of Rekha Rodwittiya, an eminent painter, which thrilled the entire art fraternity.
A Vadodara-based art curator, Rajiv Patel, held the live show at the Sun Art gallery as part of his sustained campaign against the prohibition law. Patel had already put up a poster show on the topic, earlier this month.
Three artists, Uday Mondal, Anand Gandapa and city-based Roopali Amin participated in the show, which began at 5pm and ended at about 8pm.
Talking to
DNA, Patel said, "We tried to bring about awareness against the prohibition law through this programme. This is art activism. The massive participation of public came as a lovely surprise. We collected about 2,000 signatures which has encouraged us to a great extent. The day when Gujarat wakes up to the ills of the prohibition policy which is breeding corruption and discrimination and abolishes it, the state will progress faster."
Leaflets too were distributed among the people, while a documentary film covering the poster exhibition and live painting show, will soon be released and distributed in colleges and various other locations.
