Pantene Hair Expert, Coleen Khan, shares a few tips and tricks to keep your crowning glory at its luxuriant best this summer

While most of us are freaking out over the tragic hair loss that our lifestyles are causing, a recent Pantene Hair Dare, saw Yami Gautam, Mahie Gill and Rituparna Sen Gupta comb through their hair 50 times to reveal not a loose strand, after using Pantene's new keratin-infused shampoo for 14 days. Coleen Khan, Pantene Hair Expert offers suggestions on selecting the shampoo that's best for your hair type.

OILY HAIR
A little grease or oil is normal for your hair. In fact, it keeps hair healthy, but too much oil can make your hair look very dirty and greasy. Hence, it's imperative to use a shampoo created specifically for oily hair, such as Pantene's Daily Moisture Repair, as it would perfectly balance the PH level. You can use a conditioner for normal hair, to balance out the effects of the shampoo. Someone with oily hair must wash the hair, more often so that the scalp is kept clean.

DRY HAIR
For dry hair, one can use a moisturising shampoo, such as Pantene's Total Damage Care. Its Keratin Damage Blockers technology, offers 99% damage protection for softer and more manageable hair. Cut down on the use of hair dryers, curling irons and straightening irons as they contribute in making your hair more dry. You should also treat your hair to a spa or to deep-conditioning treatments.

COMBINATION HAIR
A greasy scalp with dry ends poses it's own set of problems, as any shampoo that effectively deals with the grease on your scalp may adversely affect your already delicate hair. Luckily for you, there are shampoos like Wella's Balance, which will balance out the pH level of your scalp, without over-drying the strands of your hair.

THINNING HAIR
Avoid growing your hair too long as it tends to appear very fine.
For thinning hair, one must use a volumising shampoo. It is important to apply conditioner only on the lengths and ends of your hair, and not on the scalp.

IS IT TIME TO CHANGE YOUR SHAMPOO?
It is a myth that you should change your shampoo often.
Change your shampoo only if you notice changes in the strength, density or texture of your hair.
Once a month, you can buy a sachet of a cleansing/clarifying shampoo and wash your hair with it; this helps eliminate build-up from your regular shampoo.
