The Damania home is a collector's paradise

Parvez and Roshni Damania occupy a 3,500 sq ft duplex apartment nestled in the verdant surroundings of a Parsi colony built during the British rule.

The plush interiors of the apartment (which exude a classic appeal) have been done up by Hafeez Contractor.

The white walls in the drawing room provide an unobtrusive backdrop for the Husains, Jatin Das and Satish Gujaral canvases. Luxuriously upholstered sofas in royal gold are well coordinated with gold curtains, four brass Sphinx form the base of the dining table custom-made by Amy Bajaj in Delhi, limited edition Lladró artifacts signed not only by the artist but also the chairman are envy-worthy, a glass top rests on a ram forming the centre table, a chess board sporting Troy and Sparta soldiers as chess pieces make for a beautiful object d’art and a Dum crystal parrot is perched next to three Swarvoski crystal parrots on the sideboard.

Nearby another centre table has the ‘tree of life’ as its bottom and a gorgeous Lladró sculpture adapted from the famous La Meninas painting at the Museum del Prado, Spain, occupies pride of place. Phew! The list is endless....

And the collection doesn’t stop there. Neatly displayed Rosenthal, Wedgwood and a limited edition Rosenthal-designed-for-Versace dinner set peeps out of a showcase, raising the net worth of the objects in the room a couple of notches further. Another noteworthy pièce de résistance is a Lladró sculpture adapted from the famous painting titled The Kiss by Gustav Klimt.

So what is the most precious gift that Roshni has given you? “Our children without a doubt,” says Parvez. And for Roshni it’s the time he spends with the family and the vacations they take together.

On the staircase walls, en route to the top floor (where the master bedroom, children’s room, guest bedroom and bathroom are situated), is an entire 10-piece canvas collection of Vaikuntam’s ‘beautiful women’ series that is neatly adorned. “I think Vaikuntam is a great artist and we bought his series from Delhi,” says Parvez adding, “The value has appreciated manifold today.”

Their 12-year-old daughter Aviva and 9-year-old son Arish share a bedroom which is brimming with soft toys that Parvez indulges them with, says Roshni. Cute fairy lights on the window add a magical touch to the room. “Arish is techno-savvy; he loves everything that’s got to do with gadgets and even tells his dad how to manoeuvre stuff,” says Roshni.

“Our household embodies our tastes and has grown along with us over the past 14 years,” signs off the avid art collector and businessman.
