Malaysia is a beautiful country that offers a diverse landscape. It is home to many stunning rainforests, lively cities, beautiful architecture, amazing food, and a lot more. It does not matter if you are a nature lover or a culture enthusiast; it offers something unique to everyone.

However, traveling to Malaysia is not that easy during current times. All thanks to the pandemic, which has shaken the entire world. It forced countries to go under lockdowns, put travel bans, and do a lot more never-before things to break the chain of infection. However, the vaccine has come up as a ray of hope and the situation is expected to become better from here. That being said, it is important to not get too enthusiastic and careless in our everyday lives that we completely forget about the virus. Countries across the world are monitoring the pandemic situation closely and coming up with effective strategies to ensure safe travel.

If you want to or have to visit Malaysia because of any reason, read below. We have listed down some important things to know about the Malaysian Health Advisory for traveling:

  1. Restricted travel: To control and curb the spread of COVID-19 in Malaysia, the Malaysian government is only allowing certain types of passengers to enter their country. The travelers should fall under one of the following categories in order to be able to enter Malaysia:
  • Malaysian citizens
  • Diplomatic passport holders
  • Passengers with MTP
  • Students with the written approval of migration

Passengers are not allowed to transit from an international flight to a domestic flight within Malaysia. And if you are traveling from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka, you are not allowed to enter Malaysia until and unless you are a Malaysian national.

  1. Mandatory documentation: It is mandatory for every traveler to complete and submit a health declaration form Malaysia. This form comprises passenger's contact details, flight information, and more. This information can later be utilized to inform the passengers in case anyone who traveled with them tests positive for the virus. This form is supposed to be submitted online and once it is successfully submitted, a QR is generated which needs to be shown to the officials at the arrival airport.

  1. Institutional Quarantine: Individuals who are permitted to enter Malaysia have to undergo medical screening upon their arrival. They must be quarantined for 14 to 21 days at their own expense at a designated government facility. Additionally, passengers who are traveling for countries like Brazil, Canada, Hungary, Ireland, and Austria, to name a few, must carry a negative COVID-19 PCR test report, which is not more than 72 hours old.

Apart from the above three things, it is also mandatory for people and workers traveling to Malaysia to download and install the MySejahtera app on their mobile devices. All the passengers are expected to follow COVID-19 appropriate behavior, wear masks, and maintain social distancing.

While some of you might be finding these rules a little weird, Malaysia is not the only country to have such travel rules. Many countries across the world have formulated and implemented different rules to stop the spread of the virus.
