When designer Lina Tipnis visited Turkey on a trip there, little did she realise that it might add up to a new collection of work. “I loved it so much — the palace, Blue Mosque everything, Turkey has a quaint beauty that I have captured, albeit with a modern twist,” she says.
Lina’s collection that she showcased at the first ever Turkish National Day in the city was also shown earlier at the Indian Presidential Fashion Week in London. “It’s inspired by Istanbul, which is the hotspot in Turkey now. The Blue Mosque is so serene while Top Kapi brings history alive. Though the entire influence in the collection is Ottoman, it’s contemporary too.
“You have a swirling dress based on the swirling dervishes but it’s a short one. The harem pants have an interesting twist to them and there’s lots of embroidery too. An old map of Istanbul has been restored and printed on the textile and the palette has lovely, warm earthy tones to it,” she ends.
