Food shows (read spectacles) have somehow become the forbidden fruit. Everyone’s watching them and following their favourite chefs, and some, they want a show of their own! Perhaps that’s why within days, there were 300 entries for a web talent hunt to crown India’s first web masterchef.

After all, the winner gets an opportunity to set-up, manage and monetise their independent YouTube channel.

FameBox, a multi-channel talent platform for digital media, has launched India’s first web-based talent hunt for the best amateur chef in the country. The online reality show on the FameBox Webchef channel is being hosted and judged by Vir Sanghvi. The talent hunt has invited participation from across the country and India’s best Web Chef will be crowned after three rounds of intensive competition.

For round two, 75 of these entries have been shortlisted. Of these best five will be picked for the final cook-off to take place next month.

Their popularity will also be adjudged based on viewer votes. “The top five contestants, chosen based on the combined scores of judges and viewers will move into the final round. In the grand finale at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai, the top five amateur cooks will face-off in an ultimate cooking challenge where they will be judged by a panel of esteemed experts and industry veterans, to emerge as the country’s best Web Chef,” says Dhruvank Vaidya, Business Head – FameBox

The virtual contest has called out to all cooks to upload a video of them completing a dish online.
The winner also takes home a prize of  one lakh rupees along with the chance to have their own youtube channel.
