Wedding bells

He’s the serving Governor of Bihar but it’s a sheer coincidence that his grandson is set to marry a girl hailing from the state. Rohan Palshetkar, the son of educationist DY Patil’s daughter — well known infertility specialist Nandita Palshetkar — will tie the knot with Karishma Kirti in Mumbai on January 23. The couple met and fell in love while they were studying (where else, at the DY Patil Medical College)  and got engaged in December 2012. While Rohan has followed his mother’s footsteps and is now a practicing gynaecologist, his wife-to-be is a surgeon.

Talk about perfect pairings. Scion of one of the most powerful political families of Maharashtra, one of Rohan’s uncles — Satej Patil — is the the current Minister of State for Home, while two others — Vijay and Ajeenkya Patil — manage the extensive educational empire which includes sports academies, medical and engineering colleges, besides several schools and universities and India’s only privately funded cricket stadium.

However, the venue for the marriage will be the Parsi Gymkhana and will be followed up by a grand reception in Patna on January 30 where the bride’s family also happens to be based. With a host of political heavyweights expected for both occasions, the preparations have already started for the celebrations which begins with an elaborate sangeet ceremony on January 20. Here’s wishing the couple a long and happy married life.
