Hello, it’s winter!
On Day One, only a handful designers stuck to the Autumn Winter theme, while most showed collections that resembled beach wear. James Fererra was one of the few who balanced his party line to suit the theme, by teaming skimpy outfits with trendy jackets. Jumpsuits with a splash of colour on them won a round of applause from the audience. The designer himself was cheered with a lot of enthusiasm from the audience even as he broke into a spontaneous jig on the ramp.
Drape factor
Shantanu and Nikhil’s show saw the designer duo experiment with drapes on numerous silhouttes. Though Day One was low on the Bollywood element, this show saw actors Dia Mirza and Sameera Reddy grace the front row. While Sameera looked elegant in a hot pink gown, Dia looked a tad bit out of place in a velvety black number. Luckily for Dia, her vibrant smile made up for it.
Rohit rocked!
The highlight of Day One was definitely designer Rohit Bal’s off site show. And the maverick designer managed to keep things under wraps till a few hours before the actual show, when news spread that he wasn’t showing his creations on models but as installations. In probably a first instance of its kind, Rohit had security men keeping a close eye on the installations making sure that guests didn’t touch the outfits or even go too close, for fear of spilling wine on them. Towards the end, the designer had models in his trademark white creations sail in the backdrop. An onlooker even remarked that it felt like he was in a museum and not at a fashion event. We’re sure Rohit will take that as a compliment.
