Zee Jaipur Lit Fest 2014 to foray beyond literature into art, entertainment and even sports!

The much awaited literature annual festival will go beyond its usual diaspora of books and writers and include an array of events and activities that focus on promoting art and culture.

From music performances from cultures across the world to theatre shows and discussions to even a dash of Bollywood, the festival promises to serve the cultural palates of its many participants.

Theatre and cinema
Among the many sessions on books, literature, and political discourses, are a handful dialogues with film and theatre personalities. These representative of the Indian cinema industry include names like Mahmood Farooqui, director of Peepli Live, film and television producer Ekta Kapoor, actors Irrfan Khan and Javed Akhtar among others. They will be indulging the audiences in a number of talks on Indian cinema, Bollywood, and theatre scene.

Apart from this, the festival will also see a number of performances and enactments by some of the industry bests. A number of workshops will also be organised including a series on 'freedom of expression'.

Sound of music
With an exhaustive line up of musical performances traversing genres, ethnicities and borders, the festival will be extensively promoting the art of music this year. From global fusion to Sufi music to Rajasthan gypsy and folk performances, the events encompass all. The evening of the first day at the festival will see performances by the Jaipur Kawa Brass Band, The Kutle Khan Project, Colleena Shakti, and Queen Harish. Here's a sample of what it will be like:

The weekends will witness performances Ska Vengers, God’s Robots, Suhail, Karsh Kale, and Midival Punditz.

The musical talent, however, stretches far beyond the borders of India to encompass global music through representation of groups like the Grammy award winning Algerian band Tinariwen:

The music stage at the Jaipur Literature Festival will take place daily between 17 – 20 January at Hotel Clarks Amer from 7:30 to 10 pm. Tickets are priced at Rs300 and are available from Kyazoonga.com.

Further beyond art and music
This year the organisers are taking another step ahead of literature, art and music, to include sports as part of the festival's itinerary. The festival will host a cricket match between some authors and members of the Rajasthan Royals. Considering how cricket is an integral part of entertainment in India, this move will definitely be grandly welcomed by the audiences.
