Good Newwz Review: Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, Kiara Advani's happy-sad film ends 2019 with bang

Story: Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor Khan have been trying for a child from a very long time. They have been recommended IVF treatment and goof-up takes place as the hospital puts Diljit Dosanjh's sperm in Kareena's body, while Kiara Advani carries Akshay child.

Remember the F.R.I.E.N.D.S episode where Monica asks Chandler to keep their fight on hold so that they could have sex as she was ovulating at the time, despite her being angry on him for smoking in Tulsa?

Yes, that's how exactly how Good Newwz starts too! Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor Khan step into the shoes of Chandler and Monica. The film is exactly what it is shown like in the trailer which the makers then stitched according to the final edit. Akshay and Kareena play an urbane couple who have been married for seven years. They have been trying for a child but everything goes in vain. But everything changes for them when they undergo IVF treatment and a goof-up which leads to sperms getting exchanged leads Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani's characters into their lives.

Like I said earlier, the film is not mysterious as everything is shown in the trailer itself but the films’ kickass dialogues are to be credited, all thanks to Rishabh Sharma. The one-liners of each and every character are crisp and will leave you in splits. I laughed my heart out in almost every scene until the last half an hour.

For a debutant, Raj Mehta managed to strike a perfect balance in a situational comedy which has not been in Bollywood films for a long time.

Coming to performances, get me a recent movie with a perfect casting as Good Newwz has? You can’t!

Akshay and Kareena have amazingly performed the role of a career-oriented couple who still possess traditional values. The name of their house is ‘Varun aur Deepu ka Ghar'. It also shows when they refuse to opt for adoption as genes should match with parents.

Akshay is shown as a man who is insensitive and has an ego when he realises that his wife is carrying someone else’s child with no fault of hers. Kareena is fantabulous with comedy scenes and showing acting prowess in emotional scenes are her forte. 

On the other hand, Diljit and Kiara are cute and quirky Punjabi couple, who are from a small town with traditional Indian values. Diljit is a complete sweetheart and wins hearts in every scene. While Kiara has complimented him amazingly well and her transition from Preeti to Monika is commendable.

Adil Hussain and Tisca Chopra who play doctor-couple also played their part very well.

Coming to music, the film has chartbusters and it's definitely a feel-good album. Talking about editing, there are several continuity errors which can be noticed easily. It could have been easily avoided given that the film was delayed for release.

The movie takes an emotional turn only in the last half an hour which is necessary as the constant humour could have been too monotonous.

Overall, Good Newwz is no bad news and worth your end of the year time!

Verdict: Perfect casting with kickass comic timing and fine way to end 2019.
