'The Sky Is Pink' Review: Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar's film will make you reach for tissue box

Synopsis:

Through the eyes of Aisha Chaudhary, we see a love story of her parents spanning over 25 years and how they are always there for each other through thick and thin. No matter how Aisha's life pans out, she is happy knowing that her parents and her family will always be there for her and each other. The film accounts how their loss, love, and empathy towards each other made Aisha's 18 years of life a fulfilling one.

Review:

The Sky Is Pink because nobody should tell you what color your sky should be. It is the way you see it and it shouldn't change based on what others say. That's what Aditi Chaudhary (Priyanka Chopra) has to say to her son Ishaan Chaudhary (Rohit Suresh Saraf). The film based on real people, incidents and emotions, is also just as big of an emotional ride, and director Shonali Bose's vision of the same is just as extraordinary. Aisha Chaudhary (Zaira Wasim) is the film's hero, a villain in her perspective, and the narrator for all of us.

The film starts with the love story of Aditi Chaudhary and Niren Chaudhary, played by Priyanka and Farhan Akhtar. We get a glimpse of their lives without Aisha and Ishaan, and with them all at once. The Sky Is Pink travels through 25 years of their lives as pages from a diary are being read. While Aisha is telling her story, she also tells us everything she remembers and knows about her parents, her brother, and how she was there to ruin it. We start way before Aisha was born and end seven months after she had passed on in a nonlinear pattern, it creates a circle of life and gives off hope and happiness which has always been part of  Aisha Chaudhary's motivational speeches which director Shonali Bose has honored in her memory.

High on emotions, Priyanka Chopra takes the forefront like a mother to do it all for her kid. She takes the role so seriously without losing herself, it makes separating her from Aditi a little harder. The character and Priyanka have a stronger presence that at times takes over the scene. Farhan Akhtar on the other side wins the screenplay with subtle drama, and at times he carries the film forward as though he isn't even there, effortlessly. Rohit Suresh Saraf also gets his chance to shine on screen as the big brother, but not as much as Zaira Wasim who has proved her talent many times before. With a strong script and a slow-paced screenplay, The Sky Is Pink drives each moment just enough to make you feel and then brings something more to add.

Overall the film may seem a little too hard to take all at a once but a true drama always is. You have laughter, mystery, and loss all packed in a pink box.

Verdict: The Sky Is Pink because we want it to be because without loss we have nothing to truly enjoy and celebrate. The film will bring you to tears and a cause you to take a good long hard look at your loved ones.
