The BMC had earlier decided to keep a 14-day tab before making a decision about lifting restrictions in local trains for the general public. As the COVID-19 cases are rising again, the corporation is likely to review the situation on February 20 or 21.

The local trains in Mumbai started operating for the general public with certain limitations from February 1 after almost 10 months. Since the COVID-19 cases started rising again in the city, there are concerns if restarting local trains could have caused it.

The local administration is trying to ascertain if the resumption of local trains has led to this increase in coronavirus infections. According to reports, a decision has been taken not to increase timings for the public till the review is complete.

The BMC is going to deploy marshalls across the railway stations to check if COVID-19 protocols like social distancing and wearing of face masks were being followed on the trains or not.

To check the spread of coronavirus infections, the BMC ordered that people travelling in public transport including all suburban railway trains are required to wear a face mask compulsorily.
