1. Mumbai sees a spike in COVID-19 cases

On Wednesday (February 17), Mumbai registered its highest tally of COVID-19 cases since January 7. As many as 721 infections were reported in the financial capital.
2. Mumbai local trains resumed services in January

After staying shut for many months because of the coronavirus pandemic, the authorities restarted the Mumbai local trains for the general public from February 1.
3. BMC to take major step to control COVID-19

The BMC is going to deploy marshalls across the railway stations in the city. According to reports, 100 marshalls are going to be stationed on the Western railway, 100 on the Central railway, and 100 marshalls will be deployed on the Harbour line.
4. Marshalls to enforce COVID-19 protocols in Mumbai local trains

The marshalls deployed by the BMC will be enforcing COVID-19 protocols including physical distancing and wearing of face masks and keeping a check that everyone is following them.
5. Reasons for rising COVID-19 infections

The resumption of the local train services can be one of the reasons behind the rise in coronavirus infections. Since Vidarbha is also seeing a spike, some reports suggest that the gram panchayat elections that were recently held could be a reason too.
