2 college students held in chain snatching case in Pune

The suspects have been identified as Rajendra Balashaheb Shilimkar (20), a resident of Balajinagar, and his classmate aged 17.

Two college students including a minor, studying in standard XII, were arrested by the Swargate police for their alleged involvement in snatching the chain of a 77-year-old woman.

The suspects have been identified as Rajendra Balashaheb Shilimkar (20), a resident of Balajinagar, and his classmate aged 17. The incident came to light, when Kusum Dattatray Vedpatak (77), a resident of Sandesh Housing Society, Salisbury Park lodged a complaint. Inspector (crime) SM Kamble is investigating the case.

Senior inspector Ram Pathare incharge of Swargate police station told DNA, “The complainant was returning home after visiting her friend on Tuesday afternoon. The duo on a motorbike approached her and the pillion rider snatched her chain valued at Rs62,000. The complainant raised an alarm due to which two citizens caught hold of the pillion rider who is a minor and later, our patrolling police nabbed Shilimkar.’’

“Both are HSC students of a reputed city college. Their fathers are autorickshaw drivers and the two-wheeler is owned by suspect Rajendra’s father. The suspects said they did it to collect money for their send-off party.’’
