Two college students, including a girl, and a senior citizen were killed in separate road accidents in the city on Saturday. None of the victims wore helmets.

A 23-year-old college student Rucha Ramrao Lokhande was killed after her scooter was knocked down by a speeding dumper on NDA Road at Warje around 2.15 pm on Saturday. She came under the rear wheels of the vehicle and died on the spot. The police have arrested the dumper driver Balasaheb Bhanudas Roman (45) of Raikar Building, Dhayarigaon.

Police sub-inspector PR Waghmare said that the victim was on her way to Warje from Warje octroi post. She was a second year student of Master in Computer Application at MIT College in Kothrud. She hailed from Yavatmal district and was living in a private hostel in Karvenagar. Her body was handed over to her uncle for the last rites. In another accident, a 23-year-old engineering student Gokul Gangadaran was killed and his colleague Piyusha Vishwanath Dustpure (23) of Shankarsheth Road was injured after their motorcycle was hit by an unidentified vehicle at Sadhu Vaswani Chowk on Saturday night. The two were coming from Koregaon Park. According to the police, the speeding vehicle hit the motorcycle from the rear. Gokul died on the spot while Piyusha sustained serious injuries. She was rushed to Sassoon General Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital. Gokul hailed from Kerala while Piyusha stays with her grandparents at Shankarsheth Road. In the third incident, Hari Prabhakar Lagu (64) of Kothrud was killed after his motorcycle was hit by a speeding car at Karve Road on Saturday.Police said Lagu was on his way home when the car hit his bike in front of Yatri Hotel injuring him grievously. He was rushed to a hospital but doctors declared him dead. The Kothrud police have detained the car driver Nitin Prakash Gadjire (26) of Kalewadi for rash and negligent driving.
