Samta Nagar police arrested two people on Wednesday for allegedly duping a Pune businessman to the tune of Rs11 lakh under the pretext of providing him a loan. The main culprit of the case is absconding and police are trying to nab him. The arrested men have been identified as Rakesh Tripathi and Amit Patil.

According to the police, the complainant, Anil Kumar Pille, 38, a Pune businessman wanted a loan to develop his property. He then met his c friend Tripathi and told him that he needed a loan. “Tripathi told Pille that he has a friend in Mumbai who is a financer and he can help him. Tripathi then introduced him to Patil and the main culprit,” said the police officer. “The financer said he would give him a loan of Rs4 crore but he will charge a processing fee of Rs11lakh,” added the officer.

“Pille then signed the loan documents and handed over the cash at the Welcome Hotel in Borivli on Tuesday,” said the officer. After that Tripathi, Patil and chief accused asked Pille to wait and promised to be back in an hour.

“Tripathi in his police statement said that Barve got away from the car near V mall in Kandivali (East). Tripathi and Patil then got back to hotel and told Pille about the incident. Pille then filed complaint in the police station. During the interrogation, police learned that Tripathi and Patil were involved,” said police officer.

“Tripathi and Patil have been charged with breach of trust and the main accused is still absconding. We are trying our best to trace,” said a police officer, requesting anonymity.
