A 25-year-model-turned-financial consultant committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Lokhandwala. The deceased, Archana Pandey, was reportedly depressed. In the suicide note she left behind, Archana has blamed her boyfriend Omar Pathan for taking the extreme step. The police have registered a case of abetment to suicide, under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code, and booked Pathan, who is yet to be arrested, however.
Just about a week earlier, a model coordinator had jumped out of her 16th floor building in Lokhandwala.
Archana stayed alone on the 12th floor, A6, New Mhada Colony in Lokhandwala, Versova, and worked as financial consultant with Mirza Production. She had left her modelling job in 2009.
Arundathi Rane, senior inspector, Versova police station, said: "We received a call in our control room around 10. 30am from her neighbour. There was foul smell emanating from her house, leading to neighbours believing that something was amiss."
The police reached the spot immediately and found her decomposed body hanging from the fan in her bedroom. The body was immediately taken to Cooper Hospital for postmortem.
"We believe she committed suicide three days go. We recovered a suicide note. We will be examining its contents and also checking her call records," added Rane.
According to the police, the Gujarat police arrested Archana's brother, Ashwin, a few months ago for cheating. She was disturbed because of this as well, said the police.
"She used to approach us seeking help in that case as well as know the whereabouts of her brother. He did not get bail and she was frustrated because of that," said Chavan. Archana's parents died several years ago and the only close family she had was her brother.
The Versova police had initially registered a case of accidental death, but it was later turned into an abetment to suicide case based on the suicide note. The police will question Archana's friends and extended family. Pathan's statement should reveal what had taken place between the two that had led to the suicide, said the police.
