The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) issued notices last week to owners of nearly 400 illegal structures in Dapodi, asking them to remove the structures or face demolition.

The PCMC officials said the notices were issued mainly to residents of Pawarvasti, Kate Chawl, New Gulabnagar, SMS Colony, Gurav Patta and Jadhav Chawl. These areas were merged with the PCMC 14 years ago.

The notices have created panic among the residents. The Republican Yuva Morcha (RYM) has written to municipal commissioner Ashish Sharma, requesting him to regularise the illegal constructions.

The city president of RYM, Gopal More, said the people have been living in the area before Dapodi was merged with the PCMC.

The PCMC officials said the owners did not procure the building permission.
