Juhu police arrested a 21-year-old law student, Karishma Balaji Rao, on Monday, for allegedly dashing her Hyundai on a teastall and injuring seven people. The accused was returning home in Oshiwara after dropping her father, who was on his way to Delhi, at the domestic airport in Vile Parle. Rao was arrested and released on bail, said the police.

According to the witnesses, the incident happened near Juhu Gulmohar road at around 9am. The accused, who was driving a Hyundai car, allegedly dashed against three autos stationed near a tea stall, injuring seven people. The locals immediately alerted the police, who rushed to the spot. The police officials said that the accused did not run from the spot. She was arrested for rash and negligent driving and later released on bail. “Further investigation is on in the case” said police inspector A Pimple of Juhu police station.

The accused, in her statement to the police, said that the accident was not her fault, but it happened when she was trying to avoid a speeding scooter coming from the opposite direction. She claimed that while trying to avoid clashing with the scooter, she lost control of her car, which dashed against three autos that were stationed near a tea stall. All the seven people injured during the commotion are said to be out of danger.

The investigators claim that according to the preliminary medical investigation, Rao was not drunk.
