The onset of the monsoon has given rise to malaria and viral diseases in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area. As many as 73 malaria cases were reported in May and June.
Viral fever, common cold and cough ailments have also increased in the twin city.
Speaking to DNA, Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital director Dr Anand Jagdale said, “There have been 30 and 43 malaria cases reported in the city in May and June. A heavy rush of patients suffering from viral fever and common flu has been witnessed in the outpatient departments in June.”
The civic administration has begun fumigation at construction sites and in industrial areas. The health officials have warned of strong action if mosquito larvae are found in private homes.
Citizens have been asked to approach the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation if they were suffering from mosquito menace.
