The media wing of Indian Mujahideen (IM), comprising computer experts, had received special training in hacking WiFi networks.

The two cyber experts of IM, Mohammad Mansoor Peerbhoy and Mubin alias Salmaan Kadar Shaikh, and seven others had enrolled for a computer course in Hyderabad last year.

“The week long course was organised by a private group. IM members spent around Rs70,000 each to attend this course,” said Rakesh Maria, joint commissioner of police (crime).

“However, the group which had organised the training session is also on our radar. We are now checking whether they have imparted such training to other terror groups and antisocial elements. Also, whether they are conducting such training sessions in other parts of the country,” he added.

A senior crime branch official said that the IM members conducted recce several times before they narrowed down on their targets and then finally used their WiFi connection to send the terror e-mails.
