With a view to help Marathwada drought victims and raise funds for them, Grant Medical College's (GMC) is organising a marathon as part of its annual inter-college cultural festival — Astitva (2K16 Youth Revolution). The fest is among the biggest cultural festivals in the state with a collective audience of over 7,000 students.
The six-day festival will begin from March 15, 2016 with the GMC Talks, introduced for the first time, at the Anatomy Hall. The marathon will be held on March 18 and the college has placed donation boxes in several places on the campus like central canteen, boys hostel, girls hostel, boys common room and dean's office.
Talking about the marathon and the intent behind it, Shubham Dhakne, general secretary of students association of GMC, said: "We organise a marathon during our festival, but this time around the purpose is to raise funds for the drought-affected farmers. Also, the crowd will get to see the legendary alumnis of the college in GMC Talks which we have introduced this year. They will talk about their glory days at GMC."
The students will also get to interact with the alumni. This event marks the beginning of a stronger alumni organization and a bridge to facilitate the interaction between the students and the alumni which works wonders.
The festival aims at providing an opportunity for students to speak their views and raise their voice on supposedly tabooed and prohibited topic through the GMC youth forum blog, opinion board and debates.
