An inmate, who escaped from Bihar jail a month ago, was arrested from his hideout from a slum colony behind Tardeo RTO office on Thursday last.

“Sabir Ansari, 33,  was handed over to Bihar police team on Sunday for further investigation,” said API Manohar Dhanawade, Tardeo police station. Acting on a tip-off, a special squad of DCP (Zone-III) Suhas Varke conducted a raid on the slum colony on Thursday, added Dhanawade.

Ansari, a farmer, was arrested by the Akbarpur station in Nawada district, Bihar, in August for allegedly harassing his wife for dowry. He was booked under various sections of the IPC. He was later remanded in judicial custody by the first class judicial magistrate’s court at Akbarpur and subsequently lodged in Nawada district jail at Mandalkara.

On September 6, he managed to escape from the jail by hiding himself in a garbage van. After his escape, top jail officials conducted an inquiry and subsequently suspended three jail guards of Nawada district jail. A case was registered against him under section 224 (Escape from police custody) of the IPC at Akbarpur police station on September 6,” said Dhanawade.
