A day after the H-West ward corporator and her supporters put up more banners in defiance, additional commissioner of police Vishwas Nangre-Patil assured the activists that their complaint would be treated as an FIR.

On Saturday, president of ALM 144 Aftab Siddiqui was threatened and assaulted by a group of about 80 MNS workers after she filed a complaint against illegal banners put up by MNS corporator Geeta Chavan.

Chavan was irked with the civic staff of H-west for taking action against the hoardings, conveying greetings to Chavan’s husband on his birthday. She led a group of 80 MNS workers from her area and threatened the assistant commissioner and his staff.

When the group came to know that Siddiqui was in the ward office building, they rushed inside and tried to assault her. The assistant commissioner called the BMC security staff to control the crowd. The activists were angry that the assistant commissioner of H/West ward, in whose office the incident happened, had not lodged a police complaint against the corporator and her supporters.

“Additional CP Nangre-Patil directed the police to turn Siddique’s complaint letter into an FIR and also directed them to seize the CCTV footage of the ward office,” said Siddiqui on Monday.
