The civic body has come forward with an amendment proposing lease of 99 years, instead of the 30 years as per the lease property policy.

Civic activist and standing committee member, Ujwal Keskar, has demanded the cancellation of all existing leases on properties owned by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and giving it on rent at the prevailing market rate.

The civic body has come forward with an amendment proposing lease of 99 years, instead of the 30 years as per the lease property policy.

Addressing a press conference with civic activist Vivek Velankar and Sudhirkaka Kulkarni on Friday, Keskar said as per the Bombay high court’s decision, the civic body should abide by the new lease policy with a 30-year tenure contract.

Of the 2 lakh sq ft of constructed properties and 40 lakh sq ft of open land owned by the PMC, most of them are given on rent for 99 years.

“The PMC is presently getting Rs4 crore annually from leased properties, but it would earn around Rs40 crore per year if it follows the market value rate,” he said.
