Roller coaster comes to a sudden halt, leading to the mishap; cops yet to register a case.

On Wednesday afternoon a fun ride at the Adlabs Imagica amusement Theme park at Khalapur taluka near Khopoli turned out disastrous for four persons of two families as they were injured during a ride. One of the injured, a woman, suffered a skull fracture.

“We are still making inquiries into the incident and no case has been registered as of now. Four persons from two families were injured during the ride mishap,” superintendent of police, Raigad, Ankush Shinde told dna.

The incident took place around 12.45pm when Poornima Rathi, 32, her daughter Mamata, 16 and six others got into the Bandits of Robinhood ride. “Three to four seconds after the ride started, it stopped suddenly, tilting the car-train to a side,” said a cop from Khalapur police station, Raigad district. “The impact saw Poornima and her daughter hitting the sides of the train. They suffered minor injuries: Poornima suffered head injury and her daughter’s chin was hurt. The two were taken to the Jakhotia hospital in Khopoli,” said the cop.

It is alleged that it took more than half-an-hour to rescue the injured. And it was fortunate that the few students from Sishu Mandir School, who were taking the ride escaped unhurt.

Confirming the incident, Adlabs Imagica said in a statement: “Two guests suffered minor injuries at approximately 1pm this afternoon at the Bandits of Robinhood. They were immediately moved to the nearest hospital. Although the attraction has been closed for the sake of safety, the park is operational.”

Vincent Pijnenburg, chief operating officer, Adlabs Imagica, said: “We have always complied with the maintenance and operational procedures recommended by the manufacturers of every ride. The safety of our guests and employees is our utmost priority. We regret this incident, but are extremely grateful that everyone is safe.”

Ashutosh Kale, assistant vice president, Adlabs Imagica Safety and Security, said: “Every ride is checked for safety before being run. We have never had a situation like this before, and we are coordinating with the manufacturer of the structure to ensure that no untoward incident occurs in the future.”
