After Pune schools, colleges may face audit

After conducting the massive three-day exercise of student audit in the schools, the state government is mulling over a similar exercise for the colleges in the state. This was announced by Rajesh Tope, minister for higher and technical education, in Pune while speaking to the media.

“My department is ready with an action plan for the college audit but it has to be passed by the cabinet before we can implement it,” he said.

The three-day exercise of students’ audit was conducted across the state early this month. The exercise was undertaken after cases of fake students were found in Nanded in August.
Speaking about the proposed information technology institute at Chakan, Tope stated that the proposal has progressed a lot.
“One of the conditions for setting up the institute was that 100 acres should be easily available at the site. Most of the conditions have been met in Chakan, so I think the institute can come up there,” he said.

Tope asserted that principal secretary of higher and technical education department, Sanjay Kumar, would be the government’s nomination for the post of vice chancellor of the University of Pune.
He also stated that the governor would very soon give his consent to the private university’s bill. “The governor wanted to discuss some issues regarding the bill but once that is done, he would sign the bill,” he said.
