While the debate rages on the newly set age limit for alcohol, the International Symposium on Oral Cancer has declared that the government should have warning signs on the alcohol bottles about the ill-effects, particularly oral cancer.
The symposium, held this Saturday, organised by the Indian Dental Association along with support of ministry of health and family welfare, World Health Organisation, and government of India.
“There is a strong association of alcohol with mouth cancer. It has been urged that the alcohol bottles also need to have warnings,” said Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi, head and neck surgeon from Tata Memorial Hospital.
The participants also urged the government to classify areca nut as a hazardous substance. They have also asked the government for stronger pictorial warnings for smoking products.
