Alert citizens foiled a chain-snatching attempt in Shukrawar Peth on Wednesday, even as the city witnessed two chain-snatching incidents in the last 24 hours.

Vatsalyabai Khatape (63), a resident of Shukrawar Peth, raised an alarm when two men tried to flee after snatching her chain on Shivaji Road on Wednesday.

Responding to her cries for help, two alert citizens, Ravindra Hande (25) and Jijan Bhagwan (33), managed to catch the suspects and handed them over to the cops.

One of the suspects has been identified as Abhijit Pathare (21), who works as a waiter at a city hotel.

Meanwhile, Asha Yadav (40), a resident of Khese Park in Lohegaon was robbed of her gold chain valued at Rs34,000 by two unidentified suspects on a motorbike, while she was out on her evening walk with her daughter.

In another incident, three unidentified youths assaulted Rajendra Kenjale (20), a priest and resident of Dhankavdi, with sharp weapons and robbed him of his gold chain valued at Rs2,000.
