MUMBAI: BJP President Rajnath Singh on Monday said everything was fine in Maharashtra unit of the party, which is still reeling under the impact of the 'rebellion' by senior leader Gopinath Munde two months ago.

Munde, the face of BJP in Maharashtra, had stunned everyone by quitting all party posts on April 20, apparently to protest appointment of Madhu Chavan as BJP Mumbai unit president. He later withdrew the resignation after being mollified by top leaders in Delhi.

MLA Gopal Shetty was appointed Mumbai party chief as part of a compromise formula worked out by BJP leadership to resolve differences between Munde and state BJP chief Nitin Gadkari.

Interestingly, both Munde and Gadkari were conspicuous by their absence at Rajnath Singh's press conference. Singh said he had asked Munde, who is in-charge of party affairs in Rajasthan, to rush to Jaipur this morning for urgent work.

A BJP functionary said Gadkari was "supposed to be present at the press conference but his arrival to Mumbai was delayed".

"Both Munde and Gadkari are working together," Singh said.

The BJP President was evasive when asked whether Munde or Gadkari would be the party's nominee for chief minister's post after the next polls. "BJP is in alliance with Shiv Sena," he said.
