Spate of pipeline burst continues in the metropolis, with a 12-inch pipeline burst in suburban Malad this morning.
"A 12-inch pipeline burst at Jalkalyan Nagar near Malwani in Malad at 11.30 am. It was a minor burst, not much water is wasted. The repair work is going on," a civic official said.
The burst is most likely to have happened due to 'nalla safai' (drain cleaning) work being undertaken here, the official said, adding, "The water supply in the area will not be affected."
This would be the eighth pipeline burst in the city in last ten days, the official said
Soon after the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) simultaneously carried out repair works at Tansa pipeline in Bhiwandi in neighbouring Thane district and Malad tunnel in suburban Mumbai last month, incidents of frequent pipeline burst have been reported.
The civic body has said that till the replacement of 44 km Tansa pipeline is completed, incidents of pipeline burst are likely to occur frequently. The replacement work of the pipeline is likely to take two-three years.
