The congested Pimpri Camp area will soon be cleared of encroachments as the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will carry out a drive to widen lanes from Monday.
Firemen had faced difficulty to reach the spot when a major fire broke at a three-storey cloth shop in Pimpri Camp recently, forcing the civic body to remove the structures that make these lanes narrow.
As the fire engine could not be stationed on the narrow road, the officials had to park the vehicle on the approach road of the Indira Gandhi flyover and spray water on the building housing the shop from a distance.
Speaking to DNA, the PCMC executive engineer, Makarand Nikam said, “Most of the residents cooperated with the Friday deadline to remove structures.”
The civic official said there are 32 lanes in the Pimpri Camp area and the civic body has conducted widening of four lanes, the riverside road last year and the stretch between Shagun Chowk and Deluxe Chowk. Around 200 encroachments were removed.
He said the compound wall of the Jhulelal temple will be demolished.
