BEST revives creation of yellow boxes outside 6,000 bus stops in Mumbai
Now, motorists found parking within 15 metre of yellow boxes will be fined by BEST inspectors
The BEST have revived creation of yellow boxes outside all 6,000 bus stops. This is an indication that a bus will come and halt there. But this time around, they have written a letter to the Traffic Police seeking permission for giving them power to fine motorists for illegal parking in front of the bus stop.
“We have written a letter to the Traffic Police stating that our inspectors be allowed to fine motorists if found parking vehicles in front of the bus stops or 15 metre on either end of the bus stops. Until it does not pinch people’s pockets it will be difficult to bring discipline,” said Ashish Chemburkar, Chairman, BEST Undertaking.
The probable fine will be depending on what the Traffic Police suggests. However the BEST officials agree that for this they will have to approach the Home department and other state government departments for making necessary amendments in the law too. As this will have legal ramifications - in case a motorists approach the court - then to safeguard they want necessary precautions to be taken prior hand.
Also the BEST, if they receive approval for this proposal, will then think about ways to inform the people at large as well. The yellow box will be rectangular in shape.
