In an interesting turn of events, Manish Thakur, a naval officer accused in the murder case of TCS employee Kaushambi Layek, claimed that he was acquainted with Jerome Matthew, who was arrested last week for murdering Neeraj Grover, a top executive at Synergy Adlabs.
Calling Matthew a “friendly guy”, Thakur, currently in Arthur Road jail, told his lawyer Tej Bhadur Singh that they both were posted at the same naval base in Kochi.
“They were together at INS Garuda, the south wing HQ of the Navy,” said Singh.
According to Singh, Thakur was very popular in the southern naval command as he was into music and sports. “Almost everyone knew Thakur and thus Matthew was also one of his acquaintances,” he said.
However, while talking about Matthew, Thakur told Singh that he wouldn’t be able to identify him as they hadn’t seen each other in a long time. “As his name is unusual, Thakur was able to remember him,” added Singh.
