During its recently concluded zero-garbage week, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) identified 183 illegal dumping sites in the city and now plans to impose fine against those who continue to dump garbage at these places.The civic body has also planned to install boards appealing citizens not to dump garbage there. The BMC carried out zero-garbage week between May 2 and ended on May 8."We identified 183 illegal garbage sites in the city, of which, 39 sites are near public toilets, 36 on main roads, 31 on open plots and 31 in slums and other areas," Municipal Commissioner Subodh Kumar told reporters here.The BMC plans to fine those who throw garbage at such sites and it also intends to activate its field staff to catch such offenders."The Nuisance Detection Squad, along with the staff of Dattak Vasti Yojana (Slum Adoption Programme), plan to create awareness on cleanliness and also take action against those who throw refuse at such sites," the commissioner said.
